Kathmandu – New Hydropower Project to Be Built in Karnali Province

Gejuba Group Power Investment Nepal Pvt. Ltd. is preparing to develop the 270 MW Bhari-1 Partial Reservoir Hydropower Project in Nalgadh Municipality, located in Jajarkot District, within Karnali Province. The estimated development cost of the project is approximately Rs. 70 billion.


🏗️ Project Infrastructure

The main components of the project will include:

  • A dam,

  • Desanding basin,

  • Headrace tunnel,

  • Surge tank,

  • Penstock pipes,

  • A powerhouse, and

  • A tailrace channel.

The construction area will impact several wards:

  • Wards 10, 11, 12, and 13 of Nalgadh Municipality (Jajarkot)

  • Wards 4, 5, and 6 of Aathbiskot Municipality (Rukum West District)


Power Generation Capacity

Once operational, the hydropower plant is projected to produce approximately 1,567.31 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually.


🌲 Land and Forest Use

To implement the project, a total of 24.075 hectares of national forest will be required (for both permanent and temporary use):

  • 20.523 hectares from Jajarkot's national forest

  • 3.552 hectares from Rukum West's forest area


💰 Project Financing

  • Total Estimated Cost: Rs. 71.9716 billion

  • Funding Structure:

    • 75% debt financing

    • 25% equity investment
