Kathmandu – A 97.43 MW hydropower project named the Dangagaun Khalanga Bheri Hydropower Project is set to be developed on the Thuli Bheri River in Karnali Province. The Department of Electricity Development has proposed that this will be a semi-reservoir-based project.
The project site spans Nalgad and Bheri municipalities in Jajarkot District, as well as Aathbiskot Municipality and Sani Bheri Rural Municipality in Rukum West.
The dam and reservoir will be constructed in Ward No. 1 of Nalgad Municipality and Ward No. 1 of Aathbiskot Municipality. Audit-1 will be situated in Ward No. 1 of Nalgad, while Audit-2, along with the worker’s camp and powerhouse, will be located in Ward No. 1 of Bheri Municipality.
Key infrastructure includes a 6097.15-meter-long headrace tunnel, a 732.65-meter penstock, and a 707.57-meter audit tunnel. The project will feature a surface powerhouse housing three vertical-axis turbines.
For both the construction and operational phases, the project will require approximately 79.99 hectares of land, of which 17.76 hectares are privately owned, and 62.22 hectares belong to the government. According to the environmental impact assessment, 1,244 trees will have to be removed to make way for the project.
The total estimated cost for the project stands at Rs 26.2452 billion. Once operational, the electricity produced will be transmitted to the Nepal Electricity Authority's Nalgad substation (400/132 kV), which lies 17.8 kilometers away, via a 132 kV transmission line.
