Hydropower projects in Marsyangdi and Dordi corridors will now operate at full capacity

Kathmandu – The Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) recently conducted an unannounced inspection of the New Bharatpur 220 kV Substation located in Bharatpur. Accompanied by a high-level technical delegation—including Acting Deputy Executive Director of the Transmission Directorate, Rajan Dhakal—the Executive Director issued technical guidance and urgent directives aimed at swiftly resolving the ongoing issues at the substation, which are preventing the Damauli–Bharatpur 132 kV transmission line from operating at its full capacity.

Although the conductors on the transmission line were upgraded to enhance its capacity from 70 MW to approximately 130 MW, the line is not yet fully operational due to technical faults at the New Bharatpur substation.

Given the strategic importance of the line in integrating electricity from private hydropower projects in the Marsyangdi and Dordi corridors into the national grid, immediate action is being taken. The Hetauda Grid Division has been instructed to complete all necessary substation works within a day or two, enabling full-capacity operation.

Rajan Dhakal, who also serves as the NEA’s spokesperson, stated that the surprise inspection aligns with NEA’s commitment to maximizing the performance of all power generation and transmission infrastructure. The goal is to ensure the delivery of stable, reliable, and high-quality electricity, while also enhancing national revenue through the export of surplus energy.
