Units Engineering Connects 22nd Hydropower Project to National Grid

The 5 MW Buku Kapte Hydropower Project, designed and supervised by Units Engineering Consultancy, has been successfully connected to Nepal's national transmission system, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing renewable energy landscape.

This project is the 22nd hydropower project designed and overseen by Units Engineering that has been integrated into the national grid. The company shared the news of this achievement through its official Facebook page, highlighting its continued contribution to Nepal’s hydropower development.

The project promoter, Himstar Urja Limited, played a key role in bringing the Buku Kapte Hydropower Project to fruition. With this successful grid connection, the project is now ready to supply clean, renewable electricity to the national power system.

Units Engineering continues to position itself as a trusted partner in Nepal’s energy sector, providing end-to-end engineering solutions for hydropower development and reinforcing the nation’s progress toward sustainable energy independence.

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was signed between Himstar Urja Limited and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) on 11th Magh 2074 BS, laying the foundation for the sale of electricity generated from the plant. Subsequently, the project received its generation license from the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) on 14th Bhadra 2074 BS.

According to the project's feasibility studies, the Buku Kapte Hydropower Plant is expected to generate approximately 28.124 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. Of this:

  • 19.847 GWh will be produced during the monsoon season, and

  • 8.607 GWh during the dry season.

The successful commissioning of the Buku Kapte Hydropower Project not only reinforces the technical capabilities of Units Engineering Consultancy but also highlights the increasing contribution of independent power producers like Himstar Urja Limited in enhancing Nepal’s energy security and sustainability.
